Meet your escort at 8:00 AM board your motor coach at 8:30 AM and head to Camp Blanding.

 

Camp Blanding is the Florida Army National Guard’s primary training area and it covers approximately 73,000 square acres.  The training schedule continues year-round to meet the training needs of tens of thousands of National Guardsmen, Active Army and Reserves from all over the United States.

 

Weapons ranges include: 50 live fire ranges capable of handling all weapons systems required by a Light Infantry Brigade  Training areas include three Major maneuver Areas with a total of 55,000 plus acres of varied topography  The MOUT Collective Training Infantry Facility consists of 16 Buildings, Bridge & Tunnel Trainer.

 

During World War II Camp Blanding was a major embarkation base, and at the end of the war it was the primary east coast separation center.  The indoor museum captures the history of World War II though the Camp Blanding experience.  The outdoor museum is a great mixture of military vehicles, weapons, helicopters and of course LZ Florida, a replica of a Vietnam era Landing Zone.

The SE Chapter Jacksonville 2008 Reunion hopes to recreate a Chu Lai Stand Down for you.  We are having a beach party at the Ocean Breeze Club on the Naval Station Mayport base.  As the name suggest the club is located on the beach fronting the Atlantic Ocean.  The evening will start with a Memorial Service led by a Naval Chaplin including a lying of a wreath in the ocean in memory of our fallen comrades.  We will then have a great dinner which will include; roast suckling pig, sweet and sour chicken, stir fried vegetables and fried rice. This great dinner will be followed with a Polynesian Show.  There will be a cash bar throughout the evening.  We are confident that this will be a memorable evening and we are equally confident it will not be interrupted by incoming.  

 

The Navel Station Mayport was commissioned in 1942 and is the third largest fleet concentration in the USA.  Until recently, it was home to the Aircraft Carrier USS John F. Kennedy.  But “Big John” was recently decommissioned.  The base still host more then 70 commands and is capable of accommodating 34 ships and its 8000 foot runway is capable of handling any aircraft.

Amelia Island

Meet TourTime guide at 8:00 AM; then at 8:30 AM we will board the deluxe motor coach  and will head for Amelia Island. We will take the A1A; known as the birding trail, up to the island, with stops at the Kingsley Plantation and American Beach.

Homes on this Island date back as far as 1800. We will get to drive by some of the most unusual homes and businesses. The Palace Saloon was the last tavern in the country to close during Prohibition. It took more than two years to deplete its supply of spirits. In contrast, it was the first hard liquor bar in Florida to sell Coca-Cola. Also Fairbanks Folly: Mayor Fairbank had this house built for his wife in 1885. It is an Italian style house; painted green and yellow with rosy red trim. The inside had the same colors. Mrs. Fairbanks would not move in! Come hear about these and more stories of this colorful island. Lunch is on your own with free time for shopping.

St. Augustine  

$50.00 per person

Meet your escort/guide and motor coach at 8:00 AM, and then at 8:30 AM we board our coach and head for the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States, St. Augustine. We will take the A1A down. We will ride on the island to St. Augustine with narration & history along the way.

We will visit: the  Fountain of Youth, Old Jail, Mission of Nombre de Dios (Shrine) where first Catholic mass was said, Castillo de San Marcos our nation’s oldest monument, and much more of the “Oldest City”. We will also see Magnolia St., listed by the National Geographic as one of the most beautiful streets in America. We will hear about Henry Flagler and his three wives. We will go in the church Henry built to the glory of God and in the memory of his daughter, Jenny Louise.

Now at about 11:30 AM free time for shopping and lunch on St. George St. At 2:30 PM we board our coach and head back to your hotel.
