Could you please advise where I could get a copy of the Americal History. I have opened it on-line and see references to photographs and such, I would like to get a copy. Is it available to buy?

My compliments on one of the best sites on military medals and badges that i have encountered on the Web. For anyone who doest not know the subject, this page will teach them all they could ever want to learn. Well done!

Updating my E-Mail Address.

I saw the opening missle attack on LZ Siberia in april of 70. We were attacked also and were reinforced by a line Co. I don't remember who it was. We lost over half of our platoon and a large portion of the line Co. It took us 3 days to get to Siberia. In May I met the mother of one of our men killed that first day. Those days are not forgotten. William (Fez) Featherston

Served on Leyte, Cebu and Negros And in Japan

Just like everyone else, would like to say hello to any one out htere that remember what a hard time we had over there. Also to say what a great web site. keep up the good work XXXSMILEXXX

Interesting Site. Would like to hear from any "old timers" from my unit from formation in Ft Devens to Chu Lai in 1967.

I enjoyed viewing the LZ locations. I was at Sierberia and West.

Just wanted to add to my comments of yesterday. Names are gone but memories are there, help me out anyone. I was SSG Plt Sgt, one of my point men was a guy named Moses, also one of the other PSGs was a Ranger SSG. Used to run while on Standown with a Medic from CA, we were kicked out of the NCO club together one night. Also remember being almost deserted by all in the middle of a field for an entire night in trenches surrounde by NVA, that's when my point man and good friend Moses got hit in the face with schrapnel, fortunately he was OK.. First memory was coming down off a support base hill when we got hit with mortars. Killed the COs RTO and the CO lost both legs. Sorry for the graphics but might jog a memory out there. Thanks.

I had no 'syndrome', no hidden feelings, no repressed memories. Then the other day a perfect stranger said softly "welcome home". I came totally unglued, crying like a baby... Thanks for the page.

Will be good if i could find some old friends and info about my unit after i was wounded on Hawk Hill . I was in C troop, 1/1 Cav.

Was checking to see if other members of my company were online. (Co. A, 1/6th , 198th Infantry)

Great page! I collect US medals and decorations and found a lot of informations here!

I am not a Vet but my dad died in Vietnam 70 Jan. I lost a good friend 71 March at LZ Maryann, Cpt Richard Knight. I recently had the honor to attend an infomal reunion at Fort Knox/Camp Carlsen. This reunion is also a memorial service for those men who died at Maryann that fateful night. It was my priviledge and honor to be among those attending. I live in California and flew there for the weekend just to meet some of the men who knew Cpt. Knight. It meant so much to me to hear that after all this time he and the others are still remembered. For so long I thought I was the only one who thought of him and visited his grave in Arlington. I know now that I am not alone in the grief I still feel for him. You see, I only found out 5 years ago about his death. He did not write me after he went back for his second tour. I guess he figured, and rightly so, that I would not like it. There is seldom a day that goes ny that I do not think of him. I cried for a year! after finding out. I am so glad that you who are reading this came home. Thank you for being there to listen to me. I am proud of my dad and Cpt Knight. They both loved what they were doing. As Dick would say at the end of each letter, Take Care, I Care.

Hey, it's great to have a place like this. Thanks a lot.

I am looking for anyone who might have know Robert J. Kemnitz, my uncle. He recently passed away. Our family has none of his military records except for his Bronze star award. He servie with the 23rd ID in 1971 in Viet Nam. I am having trouble tracking down his DD 214. I am a vet myself, would appreciate any feedback on obtaining info for the family.

Thanks.

It has taken me over 30 years to do this. I'm glad that someone has done the ground work to keep in touch and help us to remember.

Great web site just looking for former F troopers out there in the cyber jungle (f troop 17th cav 196th brigade)

We (B 39th Engr Bn) built a timber bridge near the site of MyLai across a bay (name?). Any fellow B 39th vets out there?

Apologize lost all unit info in a fire, memory not that good. Was a infantry platoon sergeant with the Americal working out of Chu Lai, after transferring from the south from the 1st Div. Remember we had one reuniion in Cincinatti, Oh in the early 70s then lost all contact. Great site thanks for caring.

Looking better all the time.

After 29 years I enjoyed hearing about the unit I was with. It seems that without the WWW I never would have picked up on this part of my life that I left behind so many years ago. Thanks for the great page.

excellent site, looking for some of the guys.thanks.

I don't know what prompted me to check in. Just for the heck of it I decided to see what was on the internet as far as the Americal division goes. My papers shows I was with the division until 11-4-71 but acutally I was only active in Viet-Nam for about three months. Most the time was spent in the Fort Devens Hospital after MY injuries in Viet-Nam. I was retired on a 30% disability in 1971 an never had any desires to seek out any info about the division I served in until now. The web-site looks interesting and will explore it more as I'm not quite sure what I will do with this search. As I'm not quite sure of the emotions behind my desire to look into info on the disvision...... I currently reside in Rochester, NY. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for this page and the opportunity to hopefully conttact other members of my unit.

I was in Chu Lai from May 71 to about Nov 71 when the base was just about destroyed in a storm. We then gave the base to the ARVN's and at that point, I was sent to Da Nang to HHC 196th Inf. Division. I was a door gunner.
