2004 ADVA SCHOLARSHIP FUND REPORT
The Scholarship Fund Trustees met on June 24, 2004, at the annual reunion in Reno, Nevada and authorized awarding $25,000 in scholarships. The drawing for the $250 raffle prize from our annual fundraiser was also held at the reunion. The winner was John Gasper of Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
There were forty-three applicants for ADVA scholarships this year. Twenty-five were sponsored by Vietnam veteran members of our organization and eighteen were sponsored by World War II members of our organization. After an independent selection team of three educators reviewed all applications and provided their recommendations, scholarships were awarded as follows:
The first place award of $3,000 went to Angela Veldhuisen. Angela attends Iowa State University and was sponsored by her father, Evert Veldhuisen, Jr., who served in Vietnam with the 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry.
The second place award of $2,500 went to Scott Little. Scott attends Taylor University and was sponsored by his father, Alan Little, who served in Vietnam with the 174th Aviation Company.
The third place award of $2,000 went to Melissa-Ann Camp. Melissa attends Northwestern College and was sponsored by her grandfather, Conrad Krueger, who served in World War II with the 164th Infantry Regiment.
The fourth place award of $1,500 went to Kari Ewing. Kari will attend David Lipscomb University and was sponsored by her father, John Ewing, who served in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry.
The fifth place award of $1,000 went to Philip Hake. Philip attends Penn State University and was sponsored by his grandfather, Donald Eichelberger, who served in World War II with the 164th Infantry Regiment.
The following individuals each received an award of $500:
Tracy Andrews will attend the University of Florida and was sponsored by her grandfather, Frank Cohee, Jr., who served in Vietnam with the 23rd Supply & Transportation Battalion.
Bethany Andrzejewski attends Wright State University and was sponsored by her father, Lawrence Andrzejewski, who served in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry.
Jeanna Biliti attends the University of Michigan and was sponsored by her father, John Biliti, who served in Vietnam with the 23rd Military Police Company.
Martha Burch attends Knox College and was sponsored by her father, James Burch, who served in Vietnam with the 26th Engineer Battalion.
Abigaile Colicchio attends Virginia Tech and was sponsored by her father, Anthony Colicchio, who served in Vietnam with the 3rd Battalion, 18th Artillery.
Joseph Davis attends Ball State University and was sponsored by his father, Frank Davis, who served with the 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry.
Jeffrey Degroot will attend DePaul University and was sponsored by his father, John Degroot, who served in Vietnam with the 23rd Military Police Company.
Bethany Fawkes will attend Bradley University and was sponsored by her father, Raymond Fawkes, who served in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, 82nd Artillery.
Brian Gates attends Western Illinois University and was sponsored by his father, Kenneth Gates, who served in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion, 46th Infantry.
Kathryn Glen will attend Knox College and was sponsored by her father, Thomas Glen, Jr., who served in Vietnam with the 4th Battalion, 3rd Infantry.
Erin Hatch attends the University of New England and was sponsored by her grandfather, Leonard Oliver, who served in World War II with the 221st Field Artillery.
Kendall Hatch will attend Framingham State College and was sponsored by his grandfather, Leonard Oliver, who served in World War II with the 221st Field Artillery.
Elijah Johnson attends the University of Kentucky and was sponsored by her grandfather, James Leonard Johnson, who served in World War II with the 182nd Infantry Regiment.
Stephanie Loeb will attend the University of North Carolina and was sponsored by her grandfather, Everard Loeb, who served in World War II with the 182nd Infantry Regiment.
Sasha Maluk attends the College of Staten Island and was sponsored by her father, Stephen Maluk, who served in Vietnam with the 26th Engineer Battalion.
Laura McGoldrick will attend the University of Massachusetts and was sponsored by her grandfather, William McGoldrick, who served in World War II with the 182nd Infantry Regiment.
Laura McLean attends Belmont University and was sponsored by her grandfather, Nicholas Shealy, who served in World War II with the 132nd Infantry Regiment.
Mark Orthmann will attend the University of Washington and was sponsored by his father, Dennis Orthmann, who served in Vietnam with the 174th Assault Helicopter Company.
Alison Reinsch will attend the Westminster Choir College of Rider University and was sponsored by her grandfather, Joseph Thompson, who served in World War II with the 125th Quartermaster Company.
Allison Reitchel will attend the University of Maine and was sponsored by her father, Paul Reitchel, who served in Vietnam with F Troop, 8th Cavalry and the 123rd Aviation Battalion.
Joel Reynolds will attend the University of Oregon and was sponsored by his grandfather, Jack Morton, who served in World War II with the 182nd Infantry Regiment.
Kevin Ritz will attend the University of Maine and was sponsored by his grandfather, Joseph Ritz, who served in World War II with the 22nd and 721st Ordinance Companies.
Lynn Robbins will attend Midland College and was sponsored by her father, George Robbins, who served in Vietnam with the 26th Engineer Battalion and the 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry.
Claudia Saric will attend DePaul University and was sponsored by her grandfather, Felix Kirk, who served in World War II with the 247th Field Artillery.

I want to thank the ADVA members and associates who have given so generously to the scholarship fund. Our organization can be very proud of the financial assistance that we provide for these talented young men and women.
