ADVA National Reunion 2009June 25-28, 2009Shreveport-Bossier City, LAUpdate Page as of May 28, 2009Airport Transportation If you are flying into to the Shreveport Airport and want to arrange for the hotel to pick you up, please contact Roger Gilmore and let him know. Saturday Ladies Tour Plans are set for a ladies tour on Saturday morning to The Gardens of the American Rose Center. The center is located on the west side of Shreveport and will include transportation and lunch. Tour will depart the hotel at 9:00 AM and return by 2:00 PM. The cost of the tour is $20 each and includes transportation to and from the location, admission to the rose garden, and a box lunch. Discounts on buffet meals at Diamond Jacks Diamond Jacks is offering 50% off the regular price of meals at their buffet. Just show a DJ's Players Card to get the discount. The players card can be obtained free of charge at the guest office just outside the entrance to the casino boat. Hotel Registration Deadline The deadline for registering at the hotel to receive the discounted Friday and Saturday night rooms has been extended to June 14. After this date rooms will be regular price. Registrations for the reunion will be accepted from walk-ins but event tickets are limited. Please make advance reservations for reunion events if at all possible to hold your place and allow reunion planners time to make adequate arrangements. Banquet Buffet Menu The buffet menu for the Saturday night banquet includes many fine local favorites. The buffet will include the following items: Salads: Seafood salad Andouille, Pasta salad. Side Dishes: Green beans w/pecans, Seasonal vegetables, Au Gratin potatoes. Entrees: Herb baked chicken, Beef Tips Bordelaise w/rice, Fried Catfish. Desserts: Peach Cobbler, New Orleans Bread Pudding. Thursday Night Reception Hors d'Ouvres will be provided for early arriving guests from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, June 25. The reception will be held in the area near the registration table. There will also be a cash bar available at this time. A special greeting will be given by Ron Ellis, Reunion Chairman. Last minute details and schedule notices will also be announced at this time. Silent Auction A silent auction will be held in the registration area on Friday and Saturday. Items of special interest to veterans will be offered for sale. Proceeds from the auction will help fund memorials to Americal veterans. This project is conducted by the ADVA Legacy Committee. Barksdale Tour The Friday tour will be to Barksdale, AFB. The base is about ten minutes from Diamond Jacks. Beginning at 8:30 AM two 25-passenger buses will transport reunion guests on a 20 minute windshield tour of Barksdale and then make a drop off at a static display of a B-52 Stratofortress bomber. The buses will then return to Diamond Jacks for another group of reunion guests. After guest have viewed the B-52 the buses will transport everyone to the Barksdale officers club for the noon luncheon and special program. Before and after the luncheon guests can stroll across the street from the officers club to visit the 8th Air Force Museum. The buses will begin making return trips to Diamond Jacks after allowing plenty of time for everyone to visit the museum. Accommodations are being planned for those who need assistance with mobility. Private automobiles will be allowed to enter Barksdale AFB as part of the Barksdale tour but advance registration is required in order to pass security at the base entrance. More updates? Everything is about set for the reunion and it promises to be a fun-filled event. As of May 28 well over 200 registrations have been received.
